mineral separator

FDD jig concentrator

The FDD Series Compound Double-Action Jig is a heavy-duty gravity separation machine specifically developed for the pre-concentration of coarse mineral particles. Unlike conventional diaphragm jigs that rely on a single pulsation chamber, the FDD jig utilizes a unique compound double-action structure in which two jigging chambers move in opposite directions simultaneously.

This counter-motion design generates a larger stroke and stronger pulsating force, allowing coarse heavy minerals to achieve effective stratification and separation even at particle sizes where conventional jigs become less efficient.

Applications of FDD Jig Concentrators

Iron Ore Beneficiation → Used to remove low-density gangue and improve feed grade before downstream beneficiation.

Manganese Ore Upgrading → Suitable for coarse manganese ores with significant density differences between valuable minerals and waste material.

Waste Rejection Before Grinding → Installed ahead of grinding circuits to reject barren rock and reduce energy consumption.

Smelting Slag Processing → Applied in gravity recovery systems for various metallurgical slag recycling projects.

Working Principle

The FDD Series Compound Double-Action Jig separates minerals based on differences in specific gravity.

During operation, the upper cone and lower cone are connected by flexible rubber diaphragms to form sealed water chambers. Driven by the operating mechanism, the cones periodically expand and contract, generating a continuous and stable pulsating water flow within the jig chamber.

The pulsation acts on the mineral bed through the screen, causing the particles to repeatedly loosen, settle, and re-stratify. Under the downward water flow, high-density particles settle faster than low-density particles and gradually concentrate in the lower portion of the bed.

As stratification progresses, fine heavy minerals pass through the screen into the lower cone and are discharged through the lower concentrate outlet. Coarse heavy minerals form a concentrate layer above the screen and are discharged through the upper concentrate outlet, while low-density gangue and waste material are removed through the tailings outlet.

Through this continuous stratification process, the machine simultaneously recovers coarse and fine heavy minerals while rejecting waste material, achieving efficient gravity pre-concentration.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ for FDD jig concentrator

The main difference lies in the pulsation mechanism. Conventional jigs typically generate pulsating water flow through a single diaphragm or jigging chamber, whereas the FRT Series Compound Double-Action Jig uses upper and lower cones connected by flexible rubber diaphragms to create a continuous pulsating water flow. This design is particularly suitable for the pre-concentration of coarse heavy minerals and early waste rejection before grinding.
The machine is designed to recover both coarse and fine heavy minerals. Fine heavy minerals pass through the screen into the lower cone and are discharged through the lower concentrate outlet. Coarse heavy minerals form a concentrate layer above the screen and are discharged through the upper concentrate outlet, while low-density gangue and waste material are removed separately as tailings.
Yes. Mineral density, liberation size, particle size distribution, and gangue characteristics vary significantly from one deposit to another. Laboratory or pilot-scale testing provides the most reliable basis for equipment selection, process design, and performance evaluation.
